(this is not me above…maybe in a few years though)
This Saturday, I have arranged for the 1st Annual Greater Louisville Beer Mile. I created an event on Facebook and then mentioned it to a lot of people at our Tuesday night track workouts. Honestly, I don’t care if there are four people or twenty in attendance for Saturday evenings debauchery. As long as everything goes smoothly and no one calls the authorities over a large group of runners in too short-shorts who look to be consuming beer while running, it’ll be fine. I briefly mentioned in a post about beer and running exactly what the beer mile was…but let me explain:
A runner has 4 beers which need to be either in a can or bottle. The beermile.com rules state that it needs to be over 5% alcohol, we aren’t abiding by that since not everyone is a craft beer drinker. The race starts with the drinking of beer 1 and then you run 1/4 mile. Then drink another beer and another 1/4 mile. Halfway done! Repeat and you have just completed your first beer mile! If you somehow get sick or don’t finish your beer, it’s a penalty lap, but not a penalty beer. Shotgunning or bonging a beer isn’t allowed!
There are top prizes for the first two men and women, but there will be runners of every caliber at the event….hell you can jog it if you want. I haven’t came up with trophies or awards yet so I’ll try to find something around the house or at the beer store. I think I have a “Miss Congeniality Baggo” trophy somewhere in a closet. I’ll post pictures and video once it is complete. If you’re interested, drop me a line and I’ll tell you where we are running it.

I’d love to join but I’ll be in Cincy for a wedding. Chug an extra one for me!
You are crazy ….. but in a good way! Good luck. Can’t wait to read the follow-up post.
That’s so cool! I hope it all goes as planned. We had done a christmas mile in the winter where each lap included, hot chocolate, eggnog, 4 cookies, an absurd amount of frosting.
I do hope to get around to doing a beer mile this summer though!
Goodluck,
the christmas one sounds amazing.
I want in. Running under the influence is a favorite pastime.
